AMLCO Assistant

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented AMLCO Assistant to join our Compliance team within a regulated Payment Institution. This role combines day-to-day AML/CFT operational support with formal appointment as Alternate AMLCO, deputising for the AMLCO in their absence. It suits a compliance professional with solid AML/CFT grounding who is ready to take on regulatory accountability, not just administrative support.
Working closely with the AMLCO, you will support and — when acting as Alternate — assume full responsibility for the Company’s AML/CFT compliance framework in accordance with the Central Bank of Cyprus (CBC) AML Directive and Law 188(I)/2007, as amended.
Further, you will be an integral part to  the implementation and maintenance of the Company’s Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing framework, ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and internal policies.

Key Responsibilities

Support the AMLCO  in maintaining the Company’s AML/CFT compliance framework.
Perform customer due diligence (CDD), enhanced due diligence (EDD), and ongoing monitoring of business relationships.
Review customer onboarding files and KYC documentation for individuals and corporate clients.
Monitor customer transactions and investigate alerts generated by transaction monitoring systems.
Escalate unusual or suspicious activities to the AMLCO/MLRO for further assessment.
Assist with sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening.
Maintain accurate compliance records and case documentation.
Support periodic reviews of existing customers in accordance with the Company’s risk-based approach.
Assist in preparing regulatory reports, internal compliance reports, and management information.
Contribute to the development and review of AML policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Support internal and external audits, regulatory inspections, and information requests.
Stay up to date with AML/CFT legislation, regulatory developments, and industry best practices.
Assist with compliance training initiatives across the business when required.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Law, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or another relevant field.
At least 2  years of experience in AML/KYC/Compliance within a Payment Institution, Electronic Money Institution, Bank, FinTech, Crypto, or other regulated financial services environment.
Good understanding of AML/CFT legislation, customer due diligence requirements, sanctions compliance, and risk-based approach.
Experience reviewing KYC documentation for individual and corporate customers.
Familiarity with transaction monitoring and AML screening tools will be considered an advantage.
Understanding of MOKAS reporting obligations and the STR filing process, including what triggers a report and required documentation standards.
Ability to act independently and exercise sound judgement under regulatory time pressure — essential given the Alternate AMLCO function.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, knowledge of Greek would be an advantage.
Professional certification (ICA, ACAMS, CySEC AML Certification, or willingness to obtain one) will be considered an advantage.
